Sonny, eigentlich Edward Stitt, amerikanischer Jazzsaxophonist, * Boston (Massachusetts) 2. 2. 1924, ✝ Washington (D. C.) 22. 7. 1982; wurde in den 40er-Jahren im Orchester B. Eckstines bekannt und machte sich bald einen Namen als Bebopmusiker, der das Alt- genauso wie das Tenor- und das Baritonsaxophon beherrschte. In den 50er-Jahren leitete er erfolgreiche Combos zusammen mit dem Saxophonisten G. Ammons. Stitt war von C. Parker beeinflusst, entwickelte in den 50er-Jahren aber ein durchaus eigenes Profil.
